This is a full-size set of five Human replica skulls that depict the Evolution of the human. 1:1 scale fullsize models These replica skulls are cast from an unknown material which we believe is more likely than not some sort of composite.
The skulls are depicting a breathtaking series of the Fossil Hominid collection and are masterfully and carefully sculpted recreations. Useful for academic study, museum display or for your private collection, these five skulls represent significant periods in human evolution.
The set is exquisitely incased in a wooden and glass display case that measures: 136 cm long x 37 cm high x 27 cm deep with fixtures for easy hanging on the back.
The collection consists of:
-Proconsul Africanus: Proconsul africanus is an ape which lived from about 23 to 14 million years ago during the Miocene epoch. It was a fruit eater and had a brain larger than a monkey, although probably not as large as a modern ape.
-Australopithecus afarensis Lucy: is an extinct hominin that lived between 3.9 and 2.9 million years ago. A. afarensis was slenderly built, like the younger Australopithecus africanus. A. afarensis is thought to be more closely related to the genus Homo (which includes the modern human species Homo sapiens), whether as a direct ancestor or a close relative of an unknown ancestor, than any other known primate from the same time. Some researchers include A. afarensis in the genus Praeanthropus. The most famous fossil is the partial skeleton named Lucy (3.2 million years old) found by Donald Johanson and colleagues, who, in celebration of their find, repeatedly played the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
-Homo erectus: is an extinct species of hominin that lived throughout most of the Pleistocene geological epoch. Its earliest fossil evidence dates to 1.9 million years ago and extends to 143,000 years ago.
-Homo Neanderthal : Neanderthals, or more rarely Neandertals, were a species or subspecies of archaic humans in the genus Homo that went extinct about 40,000 years ago. Neanderthals and modern humans share 99.7% of their DNA and are hence closely related.
-Homo Sapien: Homo sapiens is the binomial nomenclature for the only extant human species. Homo is the human genus, which also includes Neanderthals and many other extinct species of hominin; H. sapiens is the only surviving species of the genus Homo. Man as he is today.
