Made by the Touareg Tribe from Niger, West Africa. Used as food, preparation or milk bowl by the nomadic tribe. Considered a prestigious bowl for these simple people, the owners usually did metal repairs to preserve the life of the bowl. This one however is not repaired but beautiful nonetheless. The item was made around the 1920's when a lot of the western and northern African countries were colonized. These jugs were most likely acquired for a private collection and brought back to Europe. Water or Palm Wine Containers or just for carrying milk in. It sits lovely among other collections (see photos ) and show a beautiful patina. It is very distressed from years of handling as seen in the photos. That however gives them real charm.
This vessel measures: It has a diameter of 16 cm ( 6.50 inches) and 19.00 cm or (7.00 inches) tall.
