With bulbous body and round spouted opening, this jar is covered with tin-glaze inside and out. A beautiful Albarello. The drug jar decorated in polychrome with blues and whites and curls of leaves and dots in an round an Armorial cartouche of two flying Peacocks and two houses surrounded by petals and foliage. There is a date for 1636 and two letters FG (see photos). It can quite possibly be from the 17th century but we cannot be sure. We've seen other similar vessels with their dates like this and are attributed to their date/time. It is a jar that held AQ. BORACNIS. I could not attribute a maker to this piece but it is signed. (see below for a little history).

This wonderful piece is in perfect condition, having no chips or cracks or glaze missing. It is handmade and hand painted. It measures 14.00 inches tall and has a diameter of 12.50 inches at its widest. A circumference at the widest of 40.00 inches. A wonderful piece to add to your collection or start one.

A little History: An albarello (plural: albarelli) is a type of maiolica earthenware jar, originally a medicinal jar designed to hold apothecaries' ointments and dry drugs. The development of this type of pharmacy jar had its roots in the Middle East during the time of the Islamic conquests.
