19th century handmade with pieces of natural shell, very high iridescent shimmer mother of pearl half-shells form the hull and the plinth upon which it stands. Larger shells are cut in shapes approximating sails and the entire piece is pulled together with various thicknesses of brass wiring, forming mast, finer twisted wire forms. Very good to excellent condition, without a chip or crack to the shells. The inscription likely would originally have been enamel filled so as to read easier but is worn away over years and cleaning. No missing rigging wires, and it is really very nice overall. An attractive bath-side or vanity companion, this natural handcrafted dish is perfect for tiny knick-knacks, your fragranced soaps or other special things.
